LED displays used for stage projects are no longer limited to large flat video walls. For some events, the screen itself needs to become part of the stage design.
For a recent project in the USA, a customer needed a creative LED display that could provide a strong visual focus while allowing the audience to see the content from different directions. After discussing the display size, viewing distance and installation requirements, TOOSEN provided a 2-meter P2.5 spherical LED display for the project.
The finished LED sphere was designed for stage use and provided a 360-degree display surface for videos, graphics and other visual content.

The customer wanted something different from a standard rectangular LED screen. Because the display would be used as an important visual element of the stage, both appearance and image quality were important.

A spherical structure also creates different technical requirements compared with a normal flat LED wall. The modules, internal frame and signal connections all need to follow the curved shape of the screen.
Pixel pitch was one of the main points discussed during the project.
For this 2-meter sphere, P2.5 provided a practical balance between image detail, screen size and viewing distance. The relatively fine pixel pitch allows text, graphics and video content to remain clear when the audience is viewing the sphere from the stage area.
Instead of using standard flat LED cabinets, the sphere uses LED modules arranged around a customized internal structure.

One challenge in manufacturing a spherical LED display is maintaining a consistent round shape.
If the structure is not accurate, gaps or uneven areas may appear between modules. This can affect both the appearance of the sphere and the continuity of displayed content.
For this project, the internal structure was produced according to the 2-meter diameter requirement. The LED modules were then installed section by section around the frame.
Before shipment, the complete sphere was assembled and tested at the factory. The team checked the modules, power connections, signal transmission and overall display performance.
This factory testing helped reduce unnecessary adjustment after the screen arrived at the project site.
Installation was another important consideration.
A stage LED sphere needs a reliable supporting structure while keeping power and signal cables properly arranged. The modular construction of the screen also makes transportation and on-site assembly easier than transporting a completely assembled 2-meter sphere.
For this project, the sphere was prepared for a suspended stage installation. The supporting points were considered during the structural design so that the screen could be connected to the customer's stage system.

After installation, the sphere could display visual content around its entire surface, allowing people positioned on different sides of the stage to see the screen.
Content on a sphere behaves differently from content on a flat LED wall.
A normal rectangular video cannot always be placed directly onto a spherical screen without adjustment. Important visual elements may appear stretched or move into areas that are difficult for the audience to see.
During testing, sample videos and graphics were used to check how the content appeared across different parts of the sphere.
For actual events, we recommend preparing content according to the sphere's pixel layout and viewing direction. Simple graphics, large visual elements and continuous animation usually work well on spherical displays.
The completed 2m P2.5 spherical LED display provided the customer with a more distinctive stage element than a conventional flat LED screen.
Its 360-degree surface allowed visual content to remain visible from multiple directions, while the P2.5 pixel pitch provided the image detail required for the project.
More importantly, the screen was designed around the actual project requirements rather than using a fixed standard configuration.
This project also shows why diameter, pixel pitch, installation method and content design should be considered together when planning a spherical LED display.
