What Are the Main Components of an LED Display Module and Cabinet Structure?

2026-05-25

An LED display mainly consists of two core parts: the LED module structure and the LED cabinet structure.
The module determines the display quality, while the cabinet provides structural support, power distribution, signal transmission, and installation functionality.

LED Display Module Structure

The LED module is the smallest display unit of an LED screen and directly affects image quality, brightness, refresh rate, and color performance.

Component Description
LED Chips (LED Lamps) The core light-emitting components. Manufacturers typically use RGB three-in-one LEDs in either SMD or DIP packaging.
PCB Circuit Board A multi-layer printed circuit board that carries the LEDs and electronic components while transmitting power and signals.
Driver IC The key chip that controls brightness, grayscale performance, and refresh rate. Common series include ICN, FM, and MBI drivers.
Mask A black plastic cover placed in front of the LEDs. It protects the LEDs, improves contrast, and reduces light reflection.
Bottom Shell The rear structural housing of the module. It usually includes positioning posts and magnetic mounting locations.
Magnets Used to attach the module securely to the cabinet frame, allowing fast front or rear maintenance.
Pin Headers and Connectors Provide signal and power connections between modules.
Resistors, Capacitors, and MOS Tubes Auxiliary electronic components that stabilize current and protect LED lifespan.

LED Display Cabinet Structure

The cabinet acts as the supporting framework of the LED screen and serves as the basic installation unit for large display projects.

Component Description
Cabinet Frame Usually made from die-cast aluminum or aluminum profiles. It provides lightweight strength, efficient heat dissipation, and standard mounting positions.
Module Mounting Area Precisely designed magnetic or screw mounting positions based on module dimensions such as 320×160mm.
Power Supply Industrial switching power supplies, typically with 5V output, that provide stable power for the LED modules.
Receiving Card Receives image data from the sending card and distributes signals to each LED module.
Hub Board / Adapter Board Connects the receiving card to the LED modules and manages signal distribution.
Rear Cover or Maintenance Door A removable or openable back panel for rear maintenance access.
Handles Help technicians transport and install cabinets more conveniently on-site.
Fast Locks / Connection Locks Precision locking mechanisms used between cabinets to ensure seamless splicing and perfect screen flatness.
Heat Dissipation Structure Includes ventilation holes, thermal designs, and sometimes temperature-controlled cooling fans.
Waterproof Rubber Gasket Specially designed for outdoor cabinets to achieve IP65 or higher protection ratings.
Aviation Connectors Waterproof power and signal connectors commonly used in outdoor LED display cabinets.

Relationship Between Modules and Cabinets

In a complete LED display system:

Multiple LED modules assemble into one cabinet, and multiple cabinets splice together to form a complete LED video wall.

Why Cabinet Design Matters

A high-quality cabinet structure offers several advantages:

For large commercial, rental, or outdoor LED projects, cabinet precision directly affects the final display effect.
